CAPSULE: Arrowhead (2015, Dir. Jesse O'Brien)

Let me be brief. Jesse O'Brien's Arrowhead was made on a micro budget. As micro as budgets get nowadays.

To its credit it looks pretty solid as a sci-fi. TV ep level stuff. Suitably barren.

Problem is it's also pretty barren when it comes to character development, narrative progression and ideas. Interplanetary war, crashed space ships, time shifts, live planets, alien predators and body regeneration are all thrown into the mix.

There's a lot floating around but nothing connects, and in trying to be obtuse with its narrative reveals, Arrowhead presents as little more than an undriven student film project.

A few more drafts and a dramaturge would have done Jesse O'Brien's serviceable film craft and the cast's not-too-embarrassing acting a little more proud.

Go to support and to live out some old b-movie spills but be mindful that sometimes you actually get what you pay for.
